Had lunch with the new chapter of eWomen Network in Portland Oregon today. What a great group! If you’re an entrepreneur chica in Portland, be sure to check it out. I joined eWomen in SF when I was coming out of my post divorce cocoon. I hadn’t socialized in awhile and I’d lost my mojo.
eWomen gave me a safe place to practice my business pitch, get clear about what I needed for my business and…the courage to ask for what I needed. That…all need practice. Plus I met many great friends that I still have today 🙂
The best part of the day…my speech didn’t bomb this time 😉 It’s thrilling for me to be able to share a couple tips in just 20 minutes and see the light bulb “ah ha” moment go on in people’s brains. Very fun!
Thanks Portland. Hope to see you again soon.
Yes, that’s right…it’s my first official bomb.
Recently i spoke at a conference. I went on over 2 hours after they told me I would, the crowd wasn’t into it…so I cut my speech short…so short I left out all the juicy, funny stories and just hit the bullet points. B.O.R.I.N.G.
But here’s the really interesting thing….There were about 200 people in the room, men and women.
1. All the women sat there with their arms crossed in front of them with this expression of “I don’t need to be happy” on their face (well, not ALL of them but remember, I bombed so it seems that way of course).
2. But when I was done speaking ALL…yes…ALL of the men came up and thanked me. They really get it that I’m helping them win by helping women figure out what makes them happy and to communicate it to the guys more concisely.
3. AND…none of the women said anything.
I thought that was interesting.
Now…off to figure out a backup plan if my part every gets delayed like that or if the crowd isn’t with me from moment one like I’m used to! Not the best part of my day/life!
Today I’m writing from beautiful downtown San Francisco where we have the privilege of doing a book singing/signing at the new Calvin Klein Performance. They’ve got great workout clothes – chic and comfy! (Why yes, I am wearing one of the outfits I bought here!)
The 2nd floor is a yoga studio with fantastic acoustics.
I’ve brought my guitarist along and when I’m not signing, we’re singing and enjoying the great day here. Thanks CKP for hosting us!
Tonight I had my first official book signing at Dana Leslie’s Synergy Mind Body Wellness Studio in SF. It was fun to meet new people and hear their stories.
BTW, Dana gives the best massages in SF! Be sure to check her out next time you’re stressed out. You’ll be rocking your happy dance for sure!
It’s day 2 of the Book Expo in NYC. There’s soooo many people here and many have been stopping by the booth. This is where book sellers, press, librarians and voracious book readers come to check out the new releases.
Today I had a book signing at the big tables (with the well know authors), I was shocked to see a line in front of me….I figured, being a first time author, I’d just have a few.
I ran out of books in 20 minutes! I can’t describe how amazing this experience has been. Here in the city I love, staying in Chelsea (my fav), walking the Highline, eating scrumptious food and hanging out with great friends and family. Fantastic!
Yeah baby…I’m happy dancing 🙂
The Bush Street Press Booth at The Book Expo in NYC
We just arrived at The Standard Hotel in NYC to find 4 boxes of books in our hotel room!!
Whew! It’d be hard to have a book signing tomorrow without them 🙂
Tomorrow…little fish….humongous pond…teensy bit nervous 🙂
oh yeah, and The Standard Hotel…totally rocks!
Thank you soooo very much everyone! This is just unbelievable. When I woke up yesterday morning The Happiness Handbook was buried at the rank of over 1 Million.
By noon I was happy dancing (and leaking a happy tear or two) when it had hit 160,000 (ish). When I left for SF to get my makeup done at Saks before the party, it was at 14,000 (ish). Then this morning I got word that it actually hit #1 in Amazon’s Hot New Releases. Ahhhhmazing. I’m having difficulty not having happy hysterics heheheheh.
Thank you all!!! You are the best and you’ve made me very happy.
